HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR SENIOR PORTRAIT SESSION
Hair & Makeup: Arrive to your styling session with clean dry hair and a clean "makeup free" face. Be sure to communicate with my stylist. She is amazing and knows exactly what I like and what looks gorgeous in front of my lens. She will blend the perfect portrait makeup with your own individual preferences. My only request is no glittery makeup, matte makeup only. When the light catches glitter it creates some unwanted distractions on your portraits and we don’t want that!
Photo Shoot: Be sure to arrive on time or 5-10 minutes early. Many sessions are scheduled around the best natural light so we don’t want to waste a minute of it! Be sure to bring hair spray, clips, pins and whatever else is needed to keep hair out of your eyes in case it is windy. Also, bring a brush and mirror for quick touch ups.
What’s your style? Bring outfits that match your style. Bring a mix of casual and dressy. If you’re comfortable in dresses, bring them! They photograph well and offer a nice variety with your other casual outfits. Choose clothing that accentuates your best features. Layers are great for creating new looks while using the same foundation pieces. Avoid stripes and plaids or loud prints. Solid colors photograph much better than busy patterns and help draw attention to the star of the show – you! Don’t forget the accessories and shoes! We all love our shoes, right?
All clothes should be clean, pressed and on hangers. My camera equipment is precision sharp and easily picks up clothing flaws. Be sure that clothing is free of lint, hairs and worn bumpy material. Extra time editing may result in extra fees.
Just a note: We will be walking around alot - so be sure to bring a comfy pair of walking shoes to wear between our shooting times.
Undergarments: Please make sure the colors of your undergarments coordinate well with your outfits and don’t show through your clothing.
Skin Care: Having a professional makeup artist helps a lot here, but I do retouch every single photo you will see, so please don’t be concerned about minor breakouts. I’ve got you covered! If your breakout is more severe, you’re still okay. I will happily help you out with a little extra retouching.
Nail Care: Make sure nails are clean and manicured. If you paint your nails, make sure they are done well for your session. Your hands and toes may appear in some of your portraits and chipped nail paint will distract from your beautiful portraits. I recommend neutral nail colors that will remain timeless in your portraits.
Weather: Don’t worry about our Pacific NW clouds. They actual diffuse the light and make for ideal portrait lighting. If rain is falling, we will need to reschedule. I will make that decision the night before or early the morning of and contact you. If you have any doubts or concerns, please contact me at 253-370-8816.
Parents: Nobody knows your child better than you do and therefore I value your input. Although many parents feel that their presence will make their teen nervous, most often the opposite is true. If you cannot attend the session, I still value your input, talk with your teen and let her know if there is anything special you want so they can tell me when they get here. Please let me know before the session if there is something specific you are looking for.
Most Important: Have fun - this is a day all about you! A day to celebrate everything about YOU!
YOU ARE AMAZING - REMEMBER THAT!
